OUT Residency was established because some works require conditions that ordinary practice cannot provide. Not more time precisely, but different time: structured and shared. Time that holds you accountable to the work rather than to everything around it, and we built it on that premise.
Established by Kokopelli Art Foundation as the programmatic arm of Kokopelli Gallery, OUT Residency brings a small number of artists to Lagos for an intensive period of production, structured exchange, and critical engagement with the city. The programme is not designed for rest or reflection in the passive sense. It is designed for output under conditions of rigour.
Edition I carries the titleĀ Our Story First. It coincides with the fifth year of Kokopelli Gallery’s operation and marks the formal inauguration of the Foundation’s residency programme. We begin with four artists. The scale is deliberate.
