The Ụlọ Playwriting Residency 2026 is an initiative designed to support and develop emerging playwrights through a combination of a playwriting competition and an immersive residency program. The residency focuses on nurturing original theatre writing and creating space for playwrights to refine their work while engaging with a community of peers and mentors.
The program invites submissions of original, unpublished, and unperformed full-length stage plays. Selected playwrights will have the opportunity to participate in a structured residency dedicated to the development of their scripts and creative practice.
Three playwrights will be selected and awarded prizes:
- First Prize: ₦1,000,000
- Second Prize: ₦500,000
- Third Prize: ₦250,000
Beyond the financial awards, the selected writers will participate in a six-week residency scheduled for 2026, where they will work on their plays in a focused environment designed to support artistic growth and collaboration.
The residency seeks to create a platform for playwrights to explore new ideas, strengthen their storytelling, and contribute to the continued development of contemporary theatre.
Applications are open to playwrights submitting individually. Interested applicants are required to complete the official application form and submit their work before the deadline of May 3, 2026 (11:59 PM).
