About Project

Hi, I’m Funmi Bamidele, a 28-year-old multidisciplinary artist based in Enugu, Nigeria. My work moves between painting, textile design, and community-based workshops, often exploring themes of memory, identity, and the rhythms of everyday life. I draw inspiration from the landscapes around me, from the noise of the markets to the quiet patterns in old family fabrics. When I’m not in the studio, you’ll probably find me journaling in a small café, sketching in nature, or mentoring younger artists in my neighbourhood. I love traveling across different Nigerian cities, collecting stories and visual fragments that later find their way into my art. Music is also a huge part of my process — I often paint while listening to highlife and Afro-jazz, letting the sound guide my brushstrokes. I believe that art is not just about creating objects but about opening conversations. Through my residencies and collaborations, I want to continue building bridges between local communities and the wider artistic world. My hope is that each project I take on reflects a little of where I come from and also sparks something new for those who encounter it.
